Lou played for Celtic, Manchester United, Swindon Town and was capped 24 times by Scotland.

After retiring from playing he managed Swindon Town, West Ham, Birmingham City, Stoke City, Celtic and Huddersfield Town.

He now works occasionally in the media and on the after dinner circuit.
